Capsule Wardrobe

Capsule Wardrobe

You’ve probably heard the term capsule wardrobe and wondered what it was and how you’d get one for yourself.  A good capsule wardrobe forms the building blocks on which to build a wardrobe full of clothes which works for you.  Everyone’s capsule will be different. What you like to wear will depend on your colouring, your lifestyle, your personality and how you like to wear your clothes.

Most of our clothes fall into the 80/20 rule, we wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time and we wear the remaining 80% only 20% of the time.  The trick to having a wardrobe full of clothes which work for you is to have some great foundation pieces and add from there.

My suggestion is to start with bottoms.  I’m sure you have some trousers and jeans that you love and wear most often.  Start with these.  Look at the shape, my guess is that the clothes you wear most often are the right shape and fit for you.  Once you know the shapes that work, the next step is colour.  Pull out your favourite trousers and jeans (or skirts if you prefer) and check the colours you have.  Is everything black? Navy? If so, the best thing you can do for yourself is to add more colours in here.  Having something for your bottom half in 5 or 6 colours will immediately expand your options of what to wear.  For Summer I would suggest, black, navy, white, grey, khaki, and your favourite bright colour.  Our pull up, stretch Robell trousers come in amazing shades and are an easy way to increase the colour options for your bottom half.

Next up is jackets or cardigans.  I’d start with 3 here in neutral colours which will work with all of your bottoms and jeans.  Depending on what appeals to you, it could be navy or black, grey or khaki and maybe white.  What you’re aiming for is that each jacket goes with every bottom.

To complete your capsule wardrobe now add in 5 to 8 tops.  Maybe you’ll have most of these already in your wardrobe.  Again, I’d pick from the basic colours above, navy, white, grey, khaki etc, to co-ordinate with your bottoms.  Adding some printed multi colours tops is a great option as they will work with several trousers and give you lots of flexibility.

Ring the changes with accessories, jewellerybags, shoes and scarves.  Try it and let me know how you get on..

Once you have your basics sorted, you can have fun and add your favourite colours in jackets, tops and accessories.  I guarantee this will work for you, if you’d like any help building your own capsule wardrobe, contact us and we’ll be delighted to help you.
