Frandsen is a Danish outerwear brand with over 50 years of specialising in coats, jackets and gilets for women. All Frandsen outerwear on our site uses EU sizing from 42 to 52 (IRL/UK 14–24). Frandsen sizing follows standard European women's outerwear conventions, where EU 42 = IRL/UK 14, EU 44 = IRL/UK 16, and so on in single steps.

How to measure yourself for outerwear

  1. Chest: measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape horizontal and close to the body. For jackets and coats, this is the primary fit measurement.
  2. Waist: measure at the narrowest point of your natural waist.
  3. Hip: measure around the widest part of your hips.
  4. Layering: because Frandsen garments are outerwear (worn over other clothing), if you're between two sizes, size up. A padded coat or gilet worn over a jumper needs more room than a top or dress in the same size.

Fit notes specific to outerwear

  • Padded and quilted coats: these are Frandsen's primary line. They're designed with warmth and freedom of movement in mind, so the cut already has generous ease. Size to your chest, and if you typically layer heavily underneath, consider going up one size.
  • Gilets: Frandsen gilets (the padded longline styles on our site) are sleeveless, so sleeve length isn't a factor — size purely on chest measurement.
  • Lightweight and water-repellent coats: these have a slimmer silhouette than the padded styles. If you're between sizes in a water-repellent or lightweight style, sizing up is more important than in the padded range.

Frequently asked questions

What size am I in Frandsen if I'm IRL/UK 18?
A UK 18 is EU 46 in Frandsen.

Should I size up in Frandsen coats?
For padded and quilted coats, Frandsen already builds in ease for comfort and layering, so your usual EU size is a good starting point. For lightweight and water-repellent styles, which have a closer fit, sizing up is recommended if you're between sizes or plan to layer a jumper underneath.

Is Frandsen designed for plus sizes?
Frandsen makes outerwear for women generally, not exclusively plus-size, but the range on our site (EU 42–52) covers IRL/UK 14–24. The brand's outerwear is known for its Scandinavian-influenced cuts that work well across a range of figures.

What types of Frandsen garments do you stock?
Our Frandsen range includes padded coats, padded hooded coats, padded longline gilets, lightweight coats and water-repellent coats — all in multiple colourways. Frandsen is designed in Denmark and known for durable, high-quality outerwear that lasts season to season.
